We’re hiring! : Guitar Tutor – October 2022
We’re looking for a talented Freelance Guitar Tutor to join our team in October 2022.
Established in 2017, Lowe Academy of Music and the Arts has quickly embedded itself at the forefront of popular music education across Sheffield and the surrounding area. As Associate Partners with the Sheffield Music Hub, we seek a talented Freelance Guitar Tutor to join our existing team in delivering outstanding music tuition in both Primary and Secondary settings.
The successful applicant will begin on a freelance basis at £18-£20 per hour. Initially starting on a part-time basis, the successful candidate will shadow alongside our existing tutor team in late September, followed by a substantial increase in available work from the October half term onwards.
Teaching is on a 1-to-1 basis within schools during term times. There is also an option to expand into online evening teaching and the opportunity to train in large group ensemble tuition delivery.
The successful applicant will be:
- an excellent communicator with children
- committed to inspiring young musicians
- an experienced musician
- able to demonstrate relevant guitar skills that relate to the modern popular musician
- comfortable with the use of technology
- organised, punctual and have good time management skills
- available for weekday teaching across 33 weeks of the Sheffield academic year
- able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the term “freelancer” (i.e conducting business in a self-employed capacity)
On successful appointment the applicant must:
- agree to an Enhanced DBS check
- provide evidence of right to work in the UK
- agree to undertake safeguarding training
- provide evidence of own public liability insurance
- be available to begin teaching in late September 2022
Selected applicants will be invited to interview and conduct a trial 20min lesson in Sheffield.

Jack Lowe – Double Bass, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele Tutor
Jack holds a First Class degree in Music from the University of Sunderland and a Masters in Composition from Goldsmiths, University of London. He has taught music both privately and with the Sheffield Music Hub for over 10 years.
As a composer, Jack creates contemporary works for small ensembles and writes for the Ukulele with his duo Toucan Uke.
As a bass player, he features on Francesca Romana’s album Travelling and has performed extensively across Jazz, Pop, Folk and Classical genres, including regular perfomances with Cutashine (The Hoedown Ceilidh Collectice), The Dancing Slippers and various other ensembles. Emily May Lowe – Vocal, Piano, Ukulele Tutor

Emily holds a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts from the University of Sunderland and has performed with some of the top acts in Europe. Notable performances include Andrea Bocelli’s UK Arena Tour and Ray Davies Meltdown finale at the Royal Festival Hall. Recording credits include movie soundtracks such as The Hobbit: An unexpected Journey and The Life of Pie.
As part of the acclaimed Crouch End Festival Chorus, Emily has extensive experience in classical and popular performance.
Emily specialises in leading children’s workshops and whole class music sessions.
