Social and interactive music education experiences at Lowe Academy
Aimed at ages 18-99+, these sessions are delivered on Wednesdays from our Music Education Centre on Junction Rd in Sharrow - S11 8XB. Instruments and equipment provided.
Listen, Learn & Play
Wednesdays 10:00 - 11:30 (90 Minutes)
£10 per person billed monthly in advance
Listen to songs that defined an era, explore what made them so influential and re-record them in the studio with an experienced musician and producer.
Deepen your appreciation of familiar music with our interactive record club. In each session, we will listen to and deconstruct a song that holds particular significance to a moment in musical history. We will explore the instruments, musical patterns, lyrics and performance characteristics that made these recordings special and recreate them in the studio. This inspiring and collaborative class will change the way you listen to music forever.
Getting The Band Back Together
Wednesdays 13:30 - 15:00 (90 Minutes)
£10 per person billed monthly in advance
Join us for a weekly jam session led by experienced musicians who can identify your strengths and connect you with like-minded players.
Whether you’re a regular player, or haven’t played in years, these sessions are ideal for brushing off the cobwebs and making music with like-minded players under the coaching of an experienced musician.
In each session, we’ll choose some songs to play and provide you with any material you need to get familiar with them. You’ll have some time to work on your individual parts with the support of our tutor before coming together with the rest of the band to work out an arrangement and perform together.
This is a great way to socialise and get back into playing with others in a positive welcoming environment.

Ava burns - Programme Director
The 'All Together Now' program is taught by Ava Burns, a visionary musician and educator with over 20 years experience in the music industry. She creates an inspiring and inclusive learning environment where students can enjoy a playful experience of experimentation, learning and sharing. Her goal is to teach people the technique they need to play their instrument and also how to use music to express themselves and build community.
Ava is a curious, observant and inventive musician who blends emotionally astute lyrics with richly melodic guitar playing. She has written and recorded ten albums of original music as a solo artist and with various ensembles including indie-rock band Bootstrap Circus and synth-pop duo Little Tiger.
